The National Electric System Operator (ONS) is responsible for coordinating and controlling the operation of generation and transmission facilities within the National Interconnected System (SIN) and for planning the operation of the country's isolated systems, under the supervision and regulation of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). With international certification from the 2021 edition of the Great Place to Work (GPTW), the organization has monitoring centers with teams operating 24/7, located across four states: Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Recife, and Florianópolis. The ONS is composed of associated members and participating members, which include generation, transmission, and distribution companies, free consumers, energy importers, and exporters. The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and representatives from Consumer Councils also participate.
