A short guide to Mexican macro data
Interested in activity, prices, monetary, fiscal, external sector, and financial data for Mexico? There are more than 200 datasets (see for example this Repository). If you look for data about Mexico, you will probably find it there. However, this short guide will help you find the basic "must-see" datasets.
Uruguay Country Profile Dashboard
The starting point is our Mexico Country Profile Dashboard, a fully automatized Dashboard presenting up-to-date data. You can catch a glimpse and get a broad idea of the latest developments.
The Charts are fully integrated with our datasets, so if you want to replicate any of them, you can download the source Dataset, or just click the button “Clone Chart” to reproduce the Chart inside our Platform.
The main sources for the data used on this Dashboard come from the Mexican National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the Central Bank of Mexico (Banxico) and the Treasury Ministry (MH). The data is fully integrated with our database which means once the sources release the data, our database will be instantaneously updated on our platform.
Our Dashboard contains five sections: Activity, Prices, Money and Banking, Fiscal, External Sector and Financial.
Activity
To track the economic activity of the Mexican Economy, you can monitor the evolution of GDP, Industrial Production, wages, and unemployment.
- INEGI's Quarterly Gross Domestic Product: both the demand and supply approaches.
- INEGI's Monthly GDP Estimate
- INEGI's Industrial Production Index, by sections and industrial activities.
- INEGI's Private Consumer Spending Index.
- INEGI's Unemployment Rate Dataset, and Banxico's Minimum Wages and Contractual Salaries Datasets.
Prices
For prices and inflation, you can track the main inflation metrics for Mexico, such as Headline Inflation, Core and Non-Core Inflation, and its groups. If you want to know the broad strokes about Mexico's Consumer Prices, this Dataset is for you. If you want to get a breakdown in Core and Non-Core Indexes, you can find that information in this Dataset. And lastly, if you need item-by-item information, the data is available here.
Money and Banking
Money and banking data tracks variables, such as the Monetary Aggregates, Interest rates, and Credit. If you are curious about interest rates, check it out this Dataset. Other useful information is:
Fiscal
The Fiscal data tracks the evolution of Mexico's Fiscal Accounts and the Debt over GDP path. Check it out more information on the Mexican Public Debt in this Dataset.
External Sector
In the External Sector Section, you can track variables such as Balance of Payments, International Reserves and the Exchanges Rates. For example, we have a dataset comparing the exchange rate between the Mexican currency and the USD dollar, check it out here.
- Banxico's Goods Trade Balance Dataset
- Banxico's Datasets on Trade Balance by Sector: Manufactured Goods, Agricultural Products, Agroindustrial Products, Petroleum Products, and Petrochemicals
- Banxico's Current Account Dataset
- Banxico's Capital Account Dataset
- Banxico's Financial Account Dataset
- Banxico's Terms of Trade Index
- Banxico's Nominal Exchange Rate Dataset
- Banxico's Real Exchange Rate Dataset
