Alphacast High Frequency CPI: Inflation was 1.04% WoW

Weekly inflation accelerated this week, driven mainly by a sharp increase in regulated prices. Consumer prices rose 1.04% WoW, up from the previous week’s revised 0.44%. On a monthly basis, inflation stood at 3% MoM, while the annual rate came in at 31.8% YoY.

Across components, core, seasonal, and regulated prices all picked up on the week, with the increase in headline inflation explained mostly by a sharp jump in regulated prices. Core inflation came in at 0.61% WoW, slightly above the previous week’s 0.57%, while the monthly pace stood at 2.5% MoM. Seasonal items increased 0.61% WoW, up marginally from the revised 0.59% the week before, with a monthly rise of 2% MoM. Meanwhile, regulated prices rose 2.07% WoW, accelerating sharply from the previous week’s 0.11%, while the monthly pace came in at 4.3% MoM.
