Alphacast High Frequency CPI: Inflation was 0.42% WoW

Weekly inflation eased in the second week of April. Consumer prices rose 0.42% WoW, down from the previous week’s revised 0.88%. On a running basis, inflation is tracking at 3.7% MoM, while the annual rate stands at 32.3% YoY.

Across components, core and seasonal inflation edged higher on the week, while regulated prices slowed sharply. Headline inflation eased materially, as the drop in regulated items more than offset the modest firming in underlying and seasonal prices. Core inflation came in at 0.53% WoW, up from the previous week’s revised 0.49%, while the monthly pace stood at 2.4% MoM. Seasonal items rose 0.59% WoW, up from the previous week’s revised 0.56%, with the monthly pace running at 2.5% MoM. Meanwhile, regulated prices increased just 0.14% WoW, a sharp deceleration from the previous week’s revised 1.75%, although the monthly pace remained elevated at 6.6% MoM.
