Alphacast High Frequency CPI: Inflation was 0.67% WoW
Weekly inflation accelerated in the third week of April. Consumer prices rose 0.67% WoW, up from the previous week’s revised 0.48%. On a running basis, inflation is tracking at 3.6% MoM, while the annual rate stands at 32.4% YoY.
Across components, core and seasonal inflation picked up on the week, while regulated prices were broadly unchanged. Headline inflation firmed, as the acceleration in core and seasonal items more than offset the steady reading in regulated prices. Core inflation came in at 0.89% WoW, up from the previous week’s revised 0.63%, while the monthly pace stood at 2.5% MoM. Seasonal items rose 1.0% WoW, up from the previous week’s revised 0.7%, with the monthly pace running at 2.7% MoM. Meanwhile, regulated prices increased 0.13% WoW, broadly in line with the previous week’s revised reading, although the monthly pace remained elevated at 6.1% MoM.
